The film festival just wrapped up, and I thought the best send off would be my mini chat with Zosia Mamet. I must start off by saying, this 3 minute or so interview was all it took to feel like I have known Zosia for years.
Side/middle note: As an avid watcher of GIRLS, I was pretty stoked to meet the girl who plays such a quick-wit, colorful and fast-talking character. If any of you know me personally, you may know I know Gilmore Girls backwards and forwards. Probably the ONLY test I could pass with flying colors! Zosia's character is a whole different type of Lorelai, but one that completely resinates with me.
At the end of last year I was asked to photograph the opening of Rebecca Minkoff's new and only store in NYC. I was asked to shoot the celebrities with Rebecca as she shows them around etc. I knew that Zosia would be there, and that they have been friends for many years now. I always wondered how their story started, and how their friendship became authentic. Meaning, more then a designer sending a celebrity clothes just because of their status.
--As you will quickly read, our conversation turns from "professional" to me feeling like I am hanging out with her in Bushwick....
Me: Hey Zosia! Just wanted to say first I love your outfit.
Zosia: Awh, Thank you so much!
Me: It's my pleasure! (Introduce myself as a Freelance Photographer etc. Also that I photographed the RM event she was at to lead into my question.
Me: I was wondering how you two met originally?
Zosia: So, Yea, Oh love your tattoos by the way..
Me: Ah, Thank you! I noticed you love hand tattoos!
Zosia: ..this one is awesome!..(points to my "Don't Shy Away" tattoo)
Me: That's actually my handwriting! It's by a stick and poke artist called Tealeigh! She lives in Brooklyn!
Zosia: DUDE! That's awesome! (Then she goes to the opposite arm where the other Tealeigh tattoo is..) These are beautiful! So awesome..
-Then to actual question-
Zosia: So, I did this thing for Glamour magazine called "These Girls." It's basically about women be women. Around the second year of it, Becky asked to dress everyone for the project. I met her randomly that way, and we just became like really good friends.
Me: Well, you look really great in her clothes!
Zosia: Oh my, Thank you!! She is amazing, I don't know how she does it honestly! I mean this woman has two kids..but looks like she never has had kids! Also designs all these amazing things for her brand!
Me: Oh my, I actually told her at the press preview (as she just said she wasn't fully back to her normal weight after the baby...) that she doesn't even look like she had kids! Also that I wish I was in her pant size...I think she liked that haha!
Zosia: No, like, she is seriously amazing, I love her.
(Her manager was trying to push her along...I noticed and followed with..)
Me: Congratulations again on your new film, and thank you for taking the time to talk!
Zosia: AH! Thank you so much! It was so nice meeting you!
->After that I wanted to be best friends with her. Another example that celebrities are just as human as the rest of us. I hope I stood out by asking something she wasn't being asked by each interviewer before or after me. As for her film "Bleeding Heart," it was freaking phenomenal. She is the complete OPPOSITE of her character Shoshanna in GIRLS. This indie drama will have you speechless, and so will her acting!
Hope you all enjoyed, as well thank you again to Lincoln Motor Company for letting me enjoy the luxury of the Black Label cars in accompany with the Tribeca Film Festival.
