Anne Klein-II

December 18, 2014

Wanted to share the other half of the upstate photos. These feature the beautiful Jessica and a couple more with Apneet. The first half we were in the pouring rain, but we still went out and shot a look. The other half is from our pit stop on the way back to the city. We came across a small antique shop that had so many treasures. Not to mention the light was perfect, so I took Jess aside and made some magic happen. Shooting these looks for Anne Klein was a bit different for me. I made it fit the style I shoot and edit in, but it was a lot more refined then I usually shoot. Sometimes you have to shoot for the demographic of the brand and not for yourself. It reminds me of being in school.

Example from then would be: My Photo Journalism teacher was V E R Y different from my Commercial teacher. With the PJ teacher you knew if you didn't shoot exactly what the assignment and examples portrayed you were digging yourself into a lovely F pot hole. Eventually I realized he was teaching you time management. He was giving you 12 assignments at once, but didn't care about things being "pretty" and "perfect." ......HA.....(perfectionist Emma dies a little inside...) I remember him saying "You will have time in second year to be creative and shoot what you want..." I would be thinking, well yea...but I have to make it to second year first. Let's just say after that first assignment...(which I got an F on..) I never thought about "pretty" photos once. After I realized you can't always do what you want..in terms of my style or really what I see..I got A's from then on out. I started to see through his eyes, and got multiple things done in a VERY tight time frame.

I wanted to go back to that scenario because in the past couple projects I have had ( GAP and this one..) your focus is on the brand. Yes they ultimately picked you for how you see things, BUT they still want their viewers to be somewhat nodding their heads like "This is so GAP, but like very personal and real." I still want you all(whomever follows along my journey) to be like "Emma really paid attention to what the brand is about, but still stuck to her style as well." Sorry for this long rant. Not really a rant just me relaying school to real life situations. Like that bell goes off in your head like "OH this is way he/she told/taught us that!"

Also there are awesome opportunities where you have total creative freedom to do what you want! HA...in which case we call "Personal Work or Portfolio Work." Usually though most brand work is about well...the brand. I am still learning with every job I have been lucky to be apart of. I really like to treat every new project as a learning tool. Also a way to push me. Push me to think creatively even in tight/strict situations. Also being able to produce great material in not so lovely timeframes. If there is one thing I have noticed with clients, it's that they love when you turn around images in one or two days. Anyways....I have talked and blabbed enough tonight....more to come soon.

Hope you enjoy a little time in Catskills via the EJK Photo Diary....
